Be sure to visit Isla de Cabras, a little island extending over the bay of San Juan where you can enjoy an afternoon walk and have a relaxing picnic with the most scenic views of El Morro, the city walls. You’ll see mega cruise ships and industrial ships enter the bay. Five hundred years ago this same bay was almost impossible to enter, the Spanish protected the bay with the construction El Morro (across the island) and the onsite Fortin of San Juan de la Cruz.
The little island offers a snack bar, picnic and restroom facilities. Park is free to access but there’s a parking fee. The beaches are not for bathing, this is a place to relax, take pictures, enjoy the views, visit the historic site and get some exercise. If you’re a tourist, it’s a nice stop after touring the Bacardi Rum Factory. Bring your swimsuit along and visit the Blue Flag beach of Punta Salinas. Not too far from here you can also enjoy the beaches of Manati.
